Hyundai joined the ranks of purveyors of “cute ‘utes” with its 2020 Venue, an SUV offering smaller than its subcompact Kona. The Venue offers only front-wheel drive, and if it replaces any vehicle in Hyundai’s lineup, it’s the departed Accent hatchback (though you can still get an Accent in sedan form).

To that end, the Venue is powered by the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine available in the Accent, paired to the same continuously variable automatic transmission and making the same 121 horsepower and 113 pounds-feet of torque. Base SE models can be had with a six-speed manual transmission instead of the CVT.
The other two trim levels are SEL and a special Denim variant. SEL models can be had with two option packages that add features like a sunroof, 17-inch wheels instead of the standard 15-inch set, keyless entry with push-button start and navigation. The Denim model has all the features of a fully optioned SEL, but it foregoes the sunroof in favor of a white roof that’s part of a two-tone color scheme. The interior of the Denim model matches the exterior color scheme and includes denim-look seat inserts.
The Venue is on sale now, with prices ranging from $18,470 for a manual-equipped SE to $20,370 for an SEL. Denim models, sans sunroof, will cost $23,170. All prices include a $1,120 destination fee. If you’re looking for a small city car with the convenience of a hatchback and don’t mind the absence of all-wheel drive, here’s everything else you need to know about the Venue:
