2022 Genesis G80 Sport First Look Review: Genesis’ Revelation?

Update: This post has been updated to include pricing and details specific to the U.S.-market 2022 Genesis G80 Sport

Genesis is dusting off the old Sport moniker and applying it to the latest iteration of its G80 luxury sedan. Like the prior G80 Sport, the 2022 G80 Sport wears subtle but distinct styling cues to separate it from its less driver-oriented kin. This includes a new front-end piece with a more prominent lower fascia, darker trim decor, and model-specific wheels. Additionally, Genesis offers the G80 Sport with either red or black brake calipers.

The luxury brand futzes with the Sport’s insides, too, fitting the sportiest G80 trim with a three-spoke steering wheel, standard aluminum or optional carbon-fiber interior trim, and model-specific seat quilting.

While the G80 Sport’s 375-hp 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 matches the output of the unit powering today’s G80 3.5T, the new model does benefit from a handful of dynamic distinctions, including standard all-wheel drive and a retuned suspension setup. Additionally, the G80 Sport is available with a rear-wheel steering system.

Look for the 2022 Genesis G80 Sport to go on sale soon with a starting price of around $65,000. Want that aforementioned rear-wheel steering setup? Then plan on dropping another $6,300 for the Prestige package, which also includes the likes of a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a head-up display. Spend another $500, and Genesis will swap the Prestige package’s standard all-season tires for stickier summer rubber.
