Brawny new Ford Ranger MS-RT launched

Ford’s long-standing aftermarket partner, MS-RT, has launched a tweaked version of the Ranger with an aggressive body kit

Ford and MS-RT have launched an upgraded version of the Ranger pick-up truck. The new model joins the specially modified MS-RT versions of the Ford Transit Custom and Transit Connect vans – and it’ll go on sale in the UK during summer this year.

MS-RT used the flagship Ford Ranger Wildtrak as a starting point. The company then added a redesigned front bumper with a new carbon fibre effect radiator grille and fresh fog lamps.

The same faux carbon fibre finish is also used on the pick-up’s door mirrors, while its front doors and tailgate feature “MS-RT” badges.

The restyled Ranger also comes with a set of aggressive flared wheel arches, broader side steps and new 20-inch OZ Racing alloy wheels. The package is completed by a more aerodynamic version of the standard pick-up’s rear load bar.

Inside, buyers get an ambient lighting system, MS-RT-branded floor mats, a new leather steering wheel and Ford’s eight-inch SYNC 3 infotainment system. The Ranger’s heated seats have also been retrimmed in black leather upholstery and contrasting orange stitching – and the two front chairs have been embroidered with the MS-RT logo.

The MS-RT Ranger is powered by Ford’s top-spec turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. However, like the rest of the firm’s modified commercial vehicles, it doesn’t produce any more power than the standard model, with the engine’s output remaining at 210bhp and 500Nm of torque.

The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox and a mechanical four-wheel-drive system as standard – which Ford says is enough to haul around a payload of up to 1,098kg or tow a maximum weight of 3,500kg. Ford also offers an app-controlled soundbox as an optional extra, which can pipe a synthesized exhaust note into the cabin.
