Presented by Chevrolet Performance and Driven by Continental Tire
The fun begins with drag racing at ZMax Dragway in Charlotte!
The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, presented by Chevrolet Performance and Continental Tire, brings out the best of us. Groups of builders, owners, and everyday people have one common goal: to drive their cars. No excuses, no trailers, and certainly no shortage of helping hands when something breaks. That was the scene as we searched the outskirts of the parking lots for some of our favorite Car Crafters.
This year’s route winds through the scenic Appalachian mountain range in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, then runs through Kentucky to Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio. We had hoped to take Car Craft’s 1980 Malibu wagon—project MalibuST—on the 2019 Hot Rod Power Tour to enjoy this drive, but we were unable to have the gremlins worked out of our LS-swap wiring and tune. We decided instead to head to the first stop at ZMax Dragway near Charlotte to see how our fellow Car Crafters were doing with their projects.
Our priority was to find the coolest homebuilt muscle cars and street machines, with the emphasis on the amateur, home-wrenched projects. We explored the fringes of the 2019 HRPT in Charlotte, and met some amazing cars and people!
