Petrol and diesel owners will face a 10p rise in costs at mainline and local junction plazas from February 16. It means prices will rise above £7 for cars paying at a mainline plaza and above £5 for those paying at a junction between 7am and 7pm.

Meanwhile, vans will face a 20p rise and HGV’s will see a 30p increase under the new changes.

However, prices will remain the same for those under a Savers scheme, designed to offer lower costs for local residents.

The price freeze will apply to the FlexiPass which offers 10 prepaid journeys at £2.90 each.

Trips are linked to a prepaid account meaning there is no need to stop and pay by card at the toll.

Price freezes will also apply to Hopper, Shuttle and FlexiVan products all designed for local drivers.

The new prices come after a post-pandemic bounceback in traffic volumes.

Recent data from the M6toll shows a 19.67 percent increase in vans and HGVs using the road from August to October compared to the same period in 2019.

As traffic volumes increase, so do traffic numbers on the M6 and many of the local routes.

Many drivers are now suffering the inconvenience of increased congestion around their local areas.

They said the price hold on local Savers products gives motorists the chance to “avoid the congestion” by using the toll for short journeys.

The changes also help ease traffic numbers on local routes in a massive help for residents.

Julie Davies, Commercial Director at Midland Expressway Ltd said the changes would “encourage more regular use” of the road.
