Dirk Fehse, CEO of PaulCamper, Europe’s largest online platform for motorhome and campervan sharing, said: “Most importantly keep calm and check all passengers are safe.” He continued: “Ensure you wear high visibility vests and move as far from the road as possible.”
If a driver experiences a slow puncture, it may take days or even weeks for it to become obvious.
This is usually down to driving over something sharp, like a nail, a screw or other debris in the road.
Motorists should always check their car before they set off on a journey, especially the air pressure in the tyres.
When checking the tyres, it may become visibly clearer that there is a puncture as the wheel may have deflated slightly.
A common warning sign of a punctured tyre is if the car drifts or pulls to one side.
If this is happening, it is best to pull over to the side of a quiet road and very briefly relax your grip on the steering wheel.
If the car pulls to one side, it indicates a problem with the wheels or tyres, which could be an issue with wheel alignment or a slow puncture affecting tyre pressure.
It is important to fix a slow puncture right away because they can cause major issues if they go untreated.

They can lead to larger tears in the tyre, which could cause a full blowout and an accident, so it’s important to get it sorted.
Whilst it is possible to fix a partial puncture yourself using a repair kit, they only act as a temporary solution, so it’s always best to visit a repair centre to get the issue resolved.
Drivers should also have a spare tyre with them to ensure that once the problem is fixed, they can continue their journey.
The British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association has certain recommendations that must be adhered to for a puncture repair to be carried out safely.
