Lexus and Fender have teamed up to release a one-of-a-kind electric guitar that will be limited to 100 copies. Using the Lexus LC500 Inspiration Series as its basis, Fender Custom Shop went to the drawing board and designed the Fender Lexus LC Stratocaster.
The custom-made guitar, built by principal master-builder Ron Thorn, features LC500 design elements and comes finished in Structural Blue. Because of its curves, tummy cut, and arm contour, the Stratocaster was the ideal guitar to highlight the intensity of the paint. In terms of tradition, the guitar retains an older body and curly maple neck, with everything else modernized and optimized for the highest performance.
Fender wanted to emphasize the paint, a color inspired by the Morpho butterfly, which scientists at Lexus spent 15 years developing. Unlike the bulk of pigments that absorb and reflect light, Structural Blue breaks up the light giving you shadows in the curves and a rich blue in the areas facing up. This specially developed paint creates contrast from every angle, covers the blue color spectrum, and has a luminescence effect, making the guitar come alive almost as if it is dancing.
The Fender Lexus LC Stratocaster has a twill carbon fiber guard that matches spoilers on Lexus models and two custom machined brushed aluminum knobs, a nod to Mark Levinson sound systems. All hardware and the matching headstock are a combination of black and satin chrome, which aligns with Lexus’ design language. Creating an automotive appearance, the fasteners on the pickguard are black button head machine screws.
In a first-ever for Fender Custom Shop, it features stainless steel frets together with lumen lay, inlays on a blue-rich light fretboard, as well as the latest noiseless pickups. Finished in polished deep blue Richlite, a new material selected exclusively for this build, the fretboard has similar components found on the LC500. This composite material is known for its tonal properties, structural stability, and resistance to wear and moisture.
The neck is constructed from 3A flame maple and finished in high gloss urethane, conveying Fender woodworking tradition with advanced visual elements. Locking tuners, two-point trim, a 12.0-inch radius, and graphite nut maximize stability on a non-locking Tremolo system. Furthermore, the headstock face comes finished in Structural Blue paint with a chrome Fender logo.
As previously mentioned, Fender Custom Shop and Lexus will be releasing 100 examples worldwide of the limited-edition guitar. The newest custom-build from Ron Thorn includes a customized case wrapped in carbon fiber textured vinyl with black leather ends and the Lexus logo embroidered inside the lid. Shining bright in LC500-inspired Structural Blue, the stunning Fender Lexus LC Stratocaster costs $6,000.
