1990 BMW 750iL Depletes Car Writers\u2019 Adjective Stockpiles

BMW sold the E32 7-Series here for the 1988 through 1994 model years, and it was the first BMW car available with a V12 engine (many aircraft had BMW V12 power starting in the 1920s, with displacements above 40 liters). Here’s a centerfold magazine advertisement for the long-wheelbase, V12-equipped 750iL, a two-ton, 296-horse monster with a $70,000 price tag (about $143,725 in 2021 bucks) that so awed the American automotive press that they used up every one of the several hundred thousand adjectives in English before turning— presumably in desperation— to adjectives found in Santali, Witotoan, and Silbo Gomero.
