Maserati has taken the wraps off its new Grecale SUV.
The all-new Maserati Grecale is the brand’s second SUV and will sit below the Levante in their product lineup. The Grecale measures 4,859 mm in length, 1,979 mm in width and 1,659 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,901 mm. The new entry-level SUV from the Italian brand will rival the Porsche Macan, BMW X3 and the Jaguar F-Pace.
The Grecale SUV offers multiple powertrain options – pure-combustion, hybrid and pure-electric. Maserati will initially offer the Grecale with the ICE and hybrid versions, while the pure-electric ‘Folgore’ version is scheduled to be introduced at a later stage.
The Grecale will be offered in three trims: GT, Modena & Trofeo. The GT and Modena variants come with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a mild-hybrid system, which produces 296 BHP on the entry-level GT variant and 325 BHP on the mid-spec Modena trim. Both variants come with the same torque figure of 450 Nm @ 2000 – 5000 rpm. The mild-hybrid system on the two variants consists of an electric compressor, a belt-starter generator and a 48V battery.
The range-topping Grecale Trofeo variant comes with a more powerful 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 523 BHP and 620 Nm. All three variants come with a standard 8-speed automatic gearbox from ZF and also feature all-wheel drive across the range. The top-spec Grecale is said to be capable of sprinting from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of 285 km/h.
In terms of design, the Grecale has been clearly inspired by both the Levante and the MC20. The car features LED headlights at the front, flanking a low-slung imposing grille. The side is characterised by the large alloy wheels, the signature Maserati gills on the front fender and the Trident on the C-pillar. The rear gets ‘boomerang-shaped’ LED taillights, a sloping rear window and newly-designed exhaust tips.
The interior of the Maserati Grecale is a radical shift from the previous offerings, with a four-screen setup offering a minimalistic theme. The cabin comes with a digital instrument cluster as standard, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch touchpad for the climate controls and a digital clock at the centre of the dashboard. All three variants come with premium materials on the inside, while the Trofeo variant gets exposed carbon fibre elements, perforated leather seats and contrast stitching.
The Maserati Grecale will go on sale in Europe sometime later this year. Prices for the SUV will be announced soon.
