With the 24 Hours of Le Mans right around the corner, Ford debuted the four cars it’s sending to the legendary race. Ford is going to use this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans to celebrate its previous races at Circuit de la Sarthe. While it would be easy for Ford to simply slap on the liveries of the four GT40s that won the race in the 1960s, Ford went deeper than that.

Two of the liveries are obvious: The No. 66 GT will resemble the GT40 that Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon wielded in 1966, and the No. 67 entry draws inspiration from A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney’s 1967 racer. The No. 68 car looks like the 2016 class-winning entry. Ford’s final entry is No. 69, which looks like the second-place finishing GT40 from the 1966 race. The little twist of not only using race-winning cars should make Ford devotees and Le Mans die-hards more excited to see the cars in action. There will also be a fifth Ford GT running in this year’s GTE AM field that will be covered in a Wynn’s livery.

This could be the final Le Mans where the Ford GT has a legitimate chance at taking its class. With Ford not extending its Le Mans racing obligations, there’s only a slim hope that a privateer will invest the time and money needed to pull a class win out of the pro ranks at Le Mans.

You’ll be able to see these cars rip around the Circuit de la Sarthe on June 15, 2019.
