Fun in the Sun at the 29th Annual Cruisin’ Ocean City

There’s nothing quite like the adrenaline rush you feel when winter has finally passed and you get to open the garage doors and fire up your Chevy muscle car for the first time of the season. The combination of high-octane fuel mixed with a deep rumble from the exhaust and a kick from a heavy cam seems to be about as good as it gets. It’s a perfect time to blow off the cobwebs that might have gathered as you lay on the throttle and grab gears while thundering down Main Street. With the outdoor event season unfolding, what could be better than experiencing one that takes your standard car show to the next level by actually encouraging you to drive your hop-up for the weekend?

For the 29th year running, Cruisin’ Ocean City, located in Ocean City, Maryland, has mastered a perfect formula for the ultimate outdoor automotive event in a quaint seaside community. Every May they welcome well over 3,000 registered participants to cruise their 10-mile strip and experience the vibe alongside perfectly manicured beaches, wicked surf, and a vintage amusement park complete with a classic boardwalk that runs for miles. This is a true driving event with the epicenter for the weekend being the Inlet, which is capable of accommodating 1,500 vehicles, including an endless stream of muscle cars, hot rods, customs, trucks, and classics to check out.

The Inlet is always busy since car owners regularly head off to other venues on the strip, including ones at the Convention center, Hooters, Cowboy Coast, Phillips Crab House, and more. With excitement around every corner you could experience one of the early morning cruises on the historic boardwalk, meet a number of special guest celebrities, and take in one of many trophy award ceremonies. Once night falls it’s time to grab a bite, tank-up, and head out on the strip to cruise well into the night. You could have also participated in Takin’ it to the Strip at US 13 Dragway in nearby Delmar, Delaware, on Friday and Saturday evening during the No-Prep Shootout and burnout competition and also watch the jet dragsters run. It’s a truly memorable horsepower festival that’s sure to sell out, so plan ahead for next year.
