While you can’t help but admire the unhinged aesthetic of Jaguar’s XE SV Project 8, it will just be a bit much for some. However, if you want a slightly more subtle version of the supercharged V8 super saloon, Jaguar does have an answer.
The firm’s Special Vehicle Operations division has put together this ‘Project 8 Touring’, which has a small, fixed boot spoiler in place of the standard car’s giant adjustable carbonfibre wing. It works together with a new front splitter.
SVO will build only 15 Touring-spec Project 8s, available in either Valencia Orange, Velocity Blue, Corris Grey Satin or British Racing Green. It won’t be possible to option it with the two-seater Track Pack, but you can still spec the outlandish decal pack. If you’re opting for the more restrained wing option, though, we’re not quite sure why you would.
Mechanically, it’s all the same bits and pieces underneath. That means there’s a 592bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 up front, sending its power to all four wheels. 0-62mph happens in 3.7 seconds, just as it does in the regular Project 8, but the top speed has dropped. Instead of topping out at 200mph, the Touring is electronically-limited to 186.
Jaguar hasn’t revealed pricing for the Touring as of yet. The standard, bewinged version – a “limited number” of which are still available – starts at £149,995.
