Red Bull principal Christian Horner has branded the shambolic ending to qualifying at the Italian GP as a “complete clusterf**k”.
The tow as we know is very important around Monza, but in Q3 it was taken to a whole new level as drivers prepared for their final flying laps in Q3 by faking lock-ups, purposely going off the track and forcing rivals to slow down among other daft schemes to gain optimal track position.
All this backfired though when every driver left running in the session bar Carlos Sainz failed to cross the line to start their lap before the chequered flag flew to end the session.
Charles Leclerc will start on pole ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, but Horner was left understandably furious by the farce which leaves Alex Albon in P8 on the grid after failing to set a Q3 time.
He has blamed Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg for the “complete clusterf**k” and with the incident under investigation, expects changes to the order.
“The Renault that went straight on caused all the issues because nobody wants to be at the front of the queue. He obviously did that on purpose. It ends up as a complete clusterf**k scenario,” he told Sky Sports.
“The clerk of the course is going to have an issue with that, for sure. It was all just a bit silly.”

Mercedes principal Toto Wolff claimed that the debacle was “not even worthy of a junior formula” and also laid the blame on Hulkenberg for starting it all.
“Have you ever seen anything like that?” questioned Wolff. “That was not even worthy of a junior formula.
“The problem is that everyone is trying to get the slipstream and it’s a nerve game of who exits first and then some who exit first think to reduce their speed even more.
“Going through the chicane outside of the track is just junior class and then everybody just looked like idiots.
“Hulkenberg going through the chicane then other cars reducing their speed. Not worthy of Formula 1.”
