Daniel Ricciardo is not trying to hide anything from his team-mate Lando Norris as the two must work together to understand McLaren’s new MCL36.
Entering their second season as team-mates at McLaren, Andreas Seidl has made it clear that neither Ricciardo nor Norris will have number one status.
Instead he wants cohesion as they push McLaren forward, especially as 2022 is the beginning of a new era in Formula 1.
The sport is starting from scratch this season with its all-new cars.
They hit the track last Wednesday for the start of a three-day group shakedown at the Circuit de Catalunya where McLaren were one of the teams that impressed.
The Woking team ran their programmes seemingly without a hitch, McLaren said to be one of the teams that has already resolved the porpoising issue created by this year’s cars and their much-changed floors.
Ricciardo, who was the second busiest driver out on track with 212 laps, Norris covering 155, says he has been giving McLaren as much detailed feedback as possible.
Data that he is also sharing with his British team-mate.

“I’m giving as much feedback as possible. At this point of the year, you really give your all because you have time on your side,” he told formulapassion.it.
“I think in a race weekend, you always try to get to the point in a short time, now I say everything, also because I don’t think there can be too much information.
“I try to give them everything and then I talk to Lando.
“I think this is an important time of year to work with your team-mate, and really try to get each other kind of on the same wavelength, to then push the team in the right direction.”
McLaren had one of the better opening pre-season outings, the team covering 367 laps and setting the fourth fastest overall time with Norris’ 1:19.568, four-tenths shy of Lewis Hamilton’s pace-setting time.
“[It was] a good day from many angles,” said Ricciardo. “I think reliability was great.
“That’s on the team and everyone who’s worked hard to put this car together, so massive thank you to them.
“They’re pretty awesome to build a whole new car, put it on track and have it run so smoothly, so big thanks to them again.”
Ricciardo and Norris will return to the track on 10 March for the final pre-season outing, a three-day test at Bahrain’s Sakhir circuit.
