Kia has taken the wraps off the production version of its new EV5 SUV at the 2023 Chengdu Motor Show. The production version of the new electric SUV retains the boxy and upright design elements from the concept – unveiled earlier this year. The Kia EV5 also borrows a lot of styling elements from the brand’s larger flagship EV, the EV9.

Starting with the front, the electric SUV gets a full-width light bar with L-shaped LED DRLs positioned at the corners of the main headlamp unit. The SUV features a minimalistic look on the sides with just the front fenders and rear haunches. The production version of the EV5 also features conventional side mirrors, replacing the camera-based wing mirrors seen in the concept. The rear also carries forward the clean design with a full-width LED tail light and an integrated roof spoiler. The SUV rides on production-ready aero wheels with a unique design.

Inside, the Kia EV5 retains the concept’s twin-screen layout on the dashboard, however, the seating arrangement has been changed. The front passenger seat though has an extended base that covers the centre tunnel – which could be a booster seat. The Kia EV5 will come with all the bells and whistles in terms of features and tech. Some of these include mood lighting, multiple upholstery options, wireless charging and smartphone connectivity; among plenty of others.

The new Kia EV5 will use the LFP Blade battery pack from BYD. However, the exact specifications of the powertrain is yet to be revealed. Kia is also yet to mention the dimensions of the EV5, although reports do suggest it could measure around 4,600 mm in length and have a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. The kerb weight of the EV5 will be under 2 tonnes.
